“The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.”
~ Henry David Thoreau

Ah, a splendid morning. I’m totally loving this beautiful breeze we’ve had the past few days. And it’s been nice sharing my waking meditation with my guests upstairs. I’ve heard them each AM pulling the lounge chairs towards the railings, even before I’ve pulled myself out of bed. Months ago, I wrote about feeling a bit greedy about “my” sunrise … Now I truly just want to share it. It brings happiness 🙂

Yesterday, while writing for my other blog … and encouraging people to develop an experimental attitude towards cooking (aka have fun!) … I came across a site:
AdvancedRiskology.com

The author has a wonderful page with 99 quotes on risk taking. But aside from that, he also published a lengthy article entitled “How to Write Your Biography 40 Years Early.”

I touched on the subject the other day, with the Dalai Lama asking: “You must ask yourself how is it you want to live your life. We live and we die, this is the truth that we can only face alone. No one can help us, not even the Buddha. So consider carefully, what prevents you from living the way you want to live your life?”

So how about it? Where are you now? If you had written your Biography 30 or 40 years ago – something I think every high school graduate should be required to do – what would the biography have said then? Are you living that dream for yourself? Or did life just somehow pick you up, and carry you so far off course that you have no idea how to get back on track? Maybe you don’t even know what on-track feels like at this point.

Oddly, I’ve made huge shifts through out my lifetime. But as I look back, I had one of those communications with the divine when I was in 11th grade. I remember laying on my bed, being bound in a brilliant light and feeling that streaming of love pouring through me. And the light told me that I would have a computer business one day. I had no idea what a computer business was, and only after many years of having created one did I remember this moment with the divine. And wow, talk about the twists and turns to get me there … When I went to Hotel School, did I ever think I’d be running my own villa. No. And the Restaurant part of my school …. Did I think it would assist me in writing a blog about food? All of this stemming from a course we were required to take on Information Technology?? A school I only got into because my high school was on strike for the majority of my sophomore year, the longest strike in the nation. Crazy ….

So here I sit … nearing 50. What is it that I’d like the next 30 or 40 years of my life to look like? I’ve found this article extremely fascinating, because on the one hand, it’s saying that we need to have a roadmap. Yet on the other hand, it’s saying “The truest freedom is of the mind. A conscious act to embrace the unknown. The point is to make a plan with an escape hatch.”

This young man is in his 20s. In terms of decades, by his 40’s he’d like to stop working for money, and continue working for impact. Yea … I like that idea! At 50 … Prepare for succession & explore new opportunities. Buddy, I’m totally with you. So while I’m out exploring this fall, I think I’m going to follow the steps laid out in his article. And somehow, I know it’s all about helping you and others do the same … Lifting Limitations ….

So tell me … Are you where you thought you’d be? And are you happy? If not, will you risk it all to take a leap of faith, and change your life?
