“The Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in spring-time.”
~  Martin Luther King

One of the things I enjoy most about life is the changing of the seasons.   And while mother nature is not quite so dramatic here in the Virgin Islands, there are little things which have become rituals for me, that help me celebrate the shifting times ….

My oracle card reading at the Spring Equinox held two very powerful cards:   In my essence was the Autumn Equinox card, a symbol of release.   In my future was the Spring Equinox card, a symbol of renewal.

Over the past three years, I have shed many things, in both my physical world, as well as my spiritual world.   I continue to evaluate areas in my life, along with old thought patterns and beliefs which are no longer serving me.   I offer appreciation for the gifts that they have offered, but just like a tree in autumn, we must shed old leaves, spending time in dormancy, in order for new buds to form, and leaves to grow.

I was thinking how far across the horizon the sun has already moved.   I was surprised to see it no longer in the channel, but already behind the hills of Tortola.  This channel being very much a symbol of passage at Springtime.

I was thinking about my closet.   Two Christmases ago, I gave away boxes full of clothing to charity.   It left me with a nearly an empty wardrobe.   Almost immediately, it seemed that Kmart got in new clothes for Spring, and surprisingly they had my size.  My closet quickly began to fill up again.   And it’s almost time for another purging (and hopefully a shopping spree when I visit my girlfriend next month)!

Over the weekend, I shared a Thanksgiving dinner of sorts with friends.   Villa guests had left me all the fixings for a delicious autumn inspired meal.   I absolutely love fall and all of the flavors that it holds.   We had Gardein turkey cutlets with mushroom gravy, roasted brussels sprouts and carrots, a millet and corn casserole, and green beans almondine.  But,  as I ate my meal, I couldn’t help but comment that my taste buds were craving spring.   It was the perfect way to celebrate releasing of the past, and welcoming in the future.

This week, I will get out my Easter decorations.   My grandmothers stone eggs.   I’ll replace candles, bringing in the smell of lilacs to my home.   I’ve begun to think about the food that I will prepare this Sunday.   I’m looking forward to trying a new slow cooker seitan ham.   I asked my friend what foods he enjoyed at Eastertime.   I laughed when he said chocolate and jellybeans 🙂

This is such a beautiful and sacred week and time of year …

As we celebrate the resurrection of Christ’s Spirit this week, may you feel the magic of springtime and the renewal of your spirit.

May God bless you this Easter,
And keep you all year through.
May God give you all the faith it takes,
To make your dreams come true.
May His love and wisdom always help,
To light you on your way.
May His light shine down upon you now,
Every single day.
