“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”
  ~  Helen Keller

On the back cover of my dreamboard album is a picture of a live-aboard cruise ship called “The World – Residences at Sea” with the words “Grand Aspirations”.

Their press release reads: “Imagine a vacation home where everything is taken care of; a sanctuary where your every whim is known.  Instead of settling into one place, you’re on an infinite voyage around the world to its most exotic ports of call. Whether you’re anchoring off the coast of St. Barts and gazing at the rainforest, enjoying a sunset camel safari in Australia, or relishing a private concert in Venice, you can be as active or as tranquil as you like. This is the lifestyle aboard The World, the largest privately owned, residential yacht on earth.

Below the photo, I inscribed:  “They say magical moments happen by chance …. It’s up to you!”

I like to tell myself that this dream isn’t completely out of reach.   “Only” a couple of million dollars are required, and probably just a little bit of luck! 🙂

So yesterday, was the first of the month, and I was in the process of paying bills.  Just an ordinary day.

Around 2:00, an emergency broadcast came across Facebook from some friends who work for a yacht provisioning service.   One of the worlds largest mega yachts named “Party Girl” was docked in St. Thomas, and was in desperate need of a stewardess.   Their regular crew member was called away on a family matter, and the owner is due to arrive today.   Did we know of anyone who might be interested in crewing for a 10 day charter ….. ?

Yes, my friends.   My magical moment.   Opportunity knocking at my door.   Did I take it?

You bet I did !!

I himmed and I hawwed for about 5 seconds, all the reasons of why I couldn’t go running through my head, then I picked up the phone and made it happen.

I’ll be cleaning “heads and beds” for a pretty decent wage, but more importantly, I’ll be gaining an experience of a lifetime.

To quote Erma Bombeck:   “Seize the moment.   Remember all those women on the Titanic who waved off the dessert cart!”

See ya in 10 days 🙂  I’m on a boat …. !
