“For today and its blessings, I owe the world an attitude of gratitude.”

Happy Thanksgiving friends. To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson: “I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new”. I appreciate your readership more than you know …

And today, I’d like to share below a beautiful message from an old friend. We’ve only met once, but he’s been a penpal for most of my life. Matt’s words speak to me of the true meaning of Thanksgiving. I hope he doesn’t mind my sharing

For to quote Gertrude Stein:

“Silent gratitude isn’t very much to anyone.”

Remember to speak words of gratitude today, ask people how they are doing, and let them know you love them. For that’s the real thanksgiving

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles by Matt Suders

—————-

I remember growing up, when Dad was on the road, and how our home was always open to a friend, how our kitchen never closed. Mom had the biggest pots and pans, and they got used, many times.

Ours was a place, where you could always feel at home, and be welcomed as a part of our very large family.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles…all that matters is getting home, to the people who matter most, and while doing so, being reminded of how fortunate we really are, how we have it better than most, and how we need to take the time, to see how others might be doing, a view into their life, provides a better view and clearer picture into ours.

Don’t assume everything is okay, ask somebody, are you okay…..

This Thanksgiving, I am most thankful for my upbringing, and the family values that were instilled in me, to share my good fortunes, to welcome a guest, to appreciate and be thankful for all that I have, a compassion for others, a deep love for family and friends, and a deeper understanding of why these are the things that matter most….

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone…..
