Pastel Palette of the Sky on Awakening

This morning, Mother Nature’s palette was so soft, so pretty. My photo doesn’t quite capture the carnation pink, lavender, wisteria, and orchid. It made me think of a box of crayons.

I’m fortunate, as I get to play with crayons every day, electronically using Photoshop. “Artists are just children who refuse to put down their crayons.”

Did you know that Crayons were first manufactured in 1903? The box sold for a nickel and contained black, brown, blue, red, violet, orange, yellow and green – the same colors in the box of eight today. The Crayola name comes from “craie,” the French word for “chalk,” and “ola,” for “oleaginous,” or “oily.”

Robert Fulghum writes: We could learn a lot from crayons; some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright, some have weird names, but they all have learned to live together in the same box.

And I’ll sometimes sigh “they may not be the brightest crayon in the box”. Much nicer than calling someone outright stupid 😉

Singer-Songwriter John Mayer comments (and I love this one LOL): Life is like a box of crayons. Most people are the eight-color boxes, but what you’re really looking for are the 64-color boxes with the sharpeners on the back. I fancy myself to be a 64-color box, though I’ve got a few missing. It’s okay though, because I’ve got some more vibrant colors like periwinkle at my disposal. I have a bit of a problem though in that I can only meet the eight-color boxes. Does anyone else have that problem? I mean, there are so many different colors of life, of feeling, of articulation, so when I meet someone who’s an eight-color type I’m like, “hey girl, magenta!” and she’s like, “oh, you mean purple!” and she goes off on her purple thing, and I’m like, “no – I want magenta!”

I hope you’ll venture outside today, and see the vibrance in life. Life surely holds more than 64 colors. Paul Gauguin suggests “It is the eye of ignorance that assigns a fixed and unchangeable color to every object; beware of this stumbling block.”

My favorite crayon is Midnight Blue, but I’m leaning towards Lemon Yellow today.  What color inspires you?  What color will you be today ?? ♥
