“I will not take but for an answer.”

Last night’s beautiful, peaceful sunset

The sky, with it’s multi-layered clouds and light haze, was so interesting this morning, carrying over from last night apparently.  It almost looked like a water spout, but I don’t think so.  A beautiful morning for meditation, and I’ll post the actual sunrise below, because it too was interesting, and red … Full of love …

So, I love you, but ….  Have you ever found yourself saying this?  I recently said it to a friend, because I needed to get off the phone, “but” I didn’t want to hurt her feelings by saying so.  Turns out, this is a pet peeve of hers, and I’m not the only one who says it to her (and bless her for saying so)!

I wondered, where did this saying originate from anyway?  As best as I can tell, it has been made infamous by cheating husbands … “I love you, but (I’m not in love with you)”.  Over at about.com, under divorce support, if you hear these words, a big warning bell should go off. This is one of the most consistent things a cheating spouse will say. Hum …

So did I feel that I was cheating on my friend?  Maybe LOL … I had something else I needed to do.

So why do we find ourselves making excuses?

Interesting …. Here’s a list I came across …

Top 5 Reasons we Make Excuses:

1. We make excuses because we do not want to face the truth.

2. We make excuses because we do not want to take responsibility.

3. We make excuses because it is easier to complain and stay a victim.

4. We make excuses because we are afraid of the unknown.

5. We make excuses because sometimes having our heads in the sand is easier.

And My Top 5 Quotes for Not making Excuses:

1.  Never complain. Never explain.
~ Henry Ford

2.  An excuse is worse than a lie, for an excuse is a lie, guarded.
~ Alexander Pope

3.  Ninety-nine percent of all failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses.
~ George Washington Carver

4.  Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody else expects of you, never excuse yourself.
~ Henry Ward Beecher

5.  The best job goes to the person who can get it done without passing the buck or coming back with excuses.
~ Napoleon Hill

So if you find yourself getting ready to make an excuse today, stop!  No buts!!

I love you, AND  (I’m making a choice, not an excuse, and I’m not responsible for your feelings about my choices in life) ♥
