“You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.”
~ Ansel Adams

What a brilliant sunrise this morning. I was up late last night, contemplating the nature of things … I could have used a set of blinders to watch the many changing shades and dimensions of both the sun and my mind today LOL. There was a lot of duplicity in what was caught on film in this sunrise, not just in this particular photo, but in others too.

Karl Lagerfeld notes:

“What i like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”

… and note the small i …

I chatted with a friend yesterday about photographs: Those we keep, those we display, and those we toss. I told her that I don’t display photographs of people at home. To me, it feels like when we display a single photo of someone or something that we love, we are trying to say “this is it”. Yet the moment is gone, what remains is a feeling. I keep those feelings in the heart, and without a picture there to keep it encapsulated, the person and the moment can grow with me, as I grow and change, as they grow and change. It was interesting to think about. And yet, maybe in some way, not displaying photos is trying to hold on too … My brother, my grandmother … I feel you in my heart … I know you are there, gone from my sight, growing … Just not here with me where I can see you … photograph you …. Or maybe I just did 🙂

Much love today everyone. It is this love that gets me out of bed each morning to share my thoughts with you. There is so much beauty to photograph in this life .. Emotions, feelings and times past to emit through the lens … ♥
